2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the attack on the USS Liberty so I remastered from VHS one of the best documentaries on the subject: “The Loss of Liberty”. This in-depth documentary includes interviews with high-ranking Israeli military officers. Also high-ranking American military and civilian officials, including Dean Rusk, former U.S. Secretary of State, and Admiral Thomas Moorer, former Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff. You also hear from many crew members who were on the USS Liberty that fateful day.
BACKGROUND:
On June 8, 1967, Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats launched a ferocious two-hour attack against the USS Liberty, an American intelligence ship operating in the eastern Mediterranean. Of the 294 men aboard the vessel, 34 were killed and 172 were wounded. Was the attack on the USS Liberty a military blunder (as Israel claims) or a planned attack on the United States?
