I thought the Butthole Surfers classic Human Cannonball was a natural fit for an Evel and Robbie Knievel Caesars Palace fountain jump story. If you remember watching jump #3 live on TV your childhood was probably glorious.
THE CAESARS PALACE JUMP STORY:
On the morning of Dec 31st, 1967, Evel Knievel stopped in the casino and placed his last 100 dollars on the blackjack table (which he lost), stopped by the bar and had a shot of Wild Turkey and then headed outside to perform a ridiculously dangerous motorcycle jump through the fountains at Caesars Palace. He got seriously injured attempting the jump.
On September 15, 1980, during a taping of the reality television show That’s Incredible! Gary Wells attempted to jump the fountains at Caesar’s Palace, a stunt made famous by Evel Knievel’s failed attempt, but also crashed and was severely injured.
On April 14, 1989 to pay homage to his father, Robbie Knievel jumped the Caesars Palace fountains like a boss live on TV. The jump took place 22 years after Evel Knievel failed to clear the fountains in 1967. Robbie Knievel landed safely and became the first to successfully jump the fountains at Caesars, and they have stated they won’t allow it again. Following the jump, Robbie stated, “that was for you, Dad”.
